Mouthguards don't require a whole lot of time to clean or take care of. But, if you neglect your mouthguard and fail to give it the TLC it deserves, bacteria, yeast, mold and fungi could build up on the surface and grooves of your mouthguard. If you haven't read "Dirty Mouthguards", I suggest you do that first.
Every time you wear your mouthguard you should rinse it off immediately with cool water. Never use hot water because it could cause your mouthguard to distort resulting in a bad fit. You should also store your mouthguard in a well ventilated protective case when your not using it. Your mouthguard case should also be cleaned every couple of days to prevent the formation of bacteria. Your mouthguard case should be washed with a non-toxic cleaner. Make sure the case and your mouthguard are completely dry before you put your mouthguard in the case. Most dentists recommend replacing your mouthguard case every 6-12 months. Besides cleaning your mouthguard and case, you should brush your teeth after you use your mouthguard.
*WARNING! Make sure you check with the manufacturer of your mouthguard (usually on or inside the package) on how to clean your mouthguard. Some manufacturers like SISU Mouthguards has specific materials that you should and shouldn't use to clean your mouthguard.
